Ford Super Duty Research Hub

The Ford Super Duty is built for drivers whose towing and hauling demands have grown beyond what a half-ton truck can satisfy. The F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty models are engineered from the frame up for serious commercial and heavy-duty use, delivering towing and payload ratings that a standard pickup simply cannot match. Whether you’re pulling a gooseneck livestock trailer, towing a fifth-wheel recreational trailer across the country, or running a work truck that earns its keep every day with a service body, the Super Duty is the truck that Wisconsin farmers, contractors, and commercial operators depend on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gas and Power Stroke Diesel Powertrains

The Super Duty is available with two engine choices that serve different priorities. The 7.3-liter V8 gasoline engine, known as the Godzilla, produces 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque. It is a straightforward, durable powertrain that delivers strong performance without the additional complexity of a diesel, making it a solid choice for buyers who tow moderate loads or prefer gasoline simplicity. The available 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 is the powertrain of choice for maximum capability, producing 500 horsepower and a segment-leading 1,200 lb-ft of torque on the high-output version, the highest torque rating in the heavy-duty segment.

Towing and Payload Ratings

Super Duty towing and payload ratings vary significantly by configuration, and the right axle, hitch, and equipment choices matter considerably. The F-250 is capable of towing up to 22,800 pounds of fifth-wheel load when properly equipped with the Power Stroke diesel. The F-350 with dual rear wheels and the Power Stroke diesel pushes conventional towing to 40,000 pounds on properly configured gooseneck setups, and payload ratings exceed 7,000 pounds on capable configurations. The F-450 is the heaviest-duty option in the consumer Super Duty range and is popular for upfit applications including flatbeds, service bodies, and specialty commercial equipment.

Cab and Body Style Options

The Super Duty is available in Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab body styles with short and long bed options depending on the cab and model. The Regular Cab maximizes bed length and is popular for work trucks that are used primarily for hauling equipment. The SuperCab provides a pair of rear-opening doors and a fold-down rear seat for occasional passenger use without the full interior room of the Crew Cab. The Crew Cab with short box is the most popular configuration for personal use, providing full rear-seat comfort and adequate bed space for most towing and hauling applications.
