Ford Bronco Sport Research Hub

The Ford Bronco Sport brings genuine off-road capability to the compact crossover segment without sacrificing the everyday practicality that makes a small SUV useful as a primary vehicle. Built on a capable all-wheel-drive platform with multiple terrain management modes, the Bronco Sport is designed to handle unpaved trails, muddy two-tracks, and the kind of Wisconsin back roads that defeat lesser vehicles, while still being comfortable and fuel-efficient on the highway. If you want a small SUV that can actually back up its adventurous appearance with real-world capability, the Bronco Sport is built for exactly that.

Research the Bronco Sport

Off-Road Capability and Terrain Modes

The Bronco Sport comes equipped with a standard all-wheel-drive system on most trims and features Ford’s G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) modes, which allow the driver to select between Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, and Sand modes depending on surface conditions. Higher trims including the Badlands add a more sophisticated AWD system with a rear-axle disconnect and an off-road-tuned suspension with increased ground clearance. The Badlands trim also features unique Trail Control technology, which functions like off-road cruise control to maintain a consistent low-speed pace over rocky terrain.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The Bronco Sport is powered by a 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 181 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is competitive for a vehicle with genuine off-road hardware, and the powertrain delivers adequate power for trail driving, highway travel, and light towing up to 2,200 pounds. The available 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder on the Badlands trim upgrades output to 250 horsepower and 2,200 pounds of towing capacity, giving the most capable Bronco Sport trim the powertrain to match.

Interior Space and Practical Features

Inside, the Bronco Sport makes the most of its compact footprint with a tall roofline that creates an airy feel and a vertical tailgate that opens wide for easy cargo loading. Available features include a standard SYNC 3 infotainment system with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, a standard 8-inch touchscreen, a marine-grade vinyl interior option for easy cleanup after muddy adventures, and available roof rack rails for gear hauling. The rear cargo floor is flat and low when the seats are folded, making it genuinely useful for hauling camping equipment, bikes, or kayaks.
