Chevrolet Silverado HD

The Chevrolet Silverado HD is built for the jobs that a half-ton truck simply cannot do. Whether you’re regularly pulling a gooseneck livestock trailer, hauling heavy equipment to a job site, or towing a fifth-wheel camper across the country, the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD are engineered to deliver the towing and payload numbers that turn heavy work into routine work. If your needs have grown beyond what a 1500 can provide, the Silverado HD is the natural and capable next step, built tougher, rated higher, and designed to earn its keep every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Powertrain Options: Gas and Duramax Diesel

The Silverado HD is available with two engine choices. The standard 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, a capable and straightforward powertrain for buyers who do not need a diesel. The available 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 is the powertrain of choice for serious heavy-duty users, producing 470 horsepower and a segment-leading 975 lb-ft of torque. The Duramax delivers maximum towing capability, strong fuel efficiency at highway speeds, and the kind of low-RPM pulling power that makes long uphill grades feel manageable with a fully loaded trailer.

Towing and Payload Ratings

Silverado HD towing and payload ratings vary significantly by configuration, and matching the right axle ratio, hitch type, and equipment package to your intended use is important. The 2500HD is rated for up to 22,500 pounds of fifth-wheel towing when properly equipped with the Duramax diesel, enough for virtually any fifth-wheel recreational trailer on the market. The 3500HD with the Duramax diesel and dual rear wheels pushes conventional towing to 36,000 pounds and offers exceptional payload ratings for dump bed, flatbed, and service body configurations.

Configuration Options: 2500HD, 3500HD and Body Styles

The Silverado HD is available in 2500HD and 3500HD formats, each with single-rear-wheel and, on the 3500HD, dual-rear-wheel (dually) configurations. Body styles span Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab with short and long bed options depending on configuration. This flexibility allows the Silverado HD to serve as everything from a personal farm truck to a commercial chassis cab platform for upfitting with custom beds, service bodies, and specialty equipment. Trim levels range from the Work Truck through Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country.
